Description

Developmental Test of Visual Perception – Third Edition (DTVP-3) | Comprehensive Visual-Motor Assessment

Accurate, Standardized Evaluation of Visual Perception and Motor Integration in Children

The Developmental Test of Visual Perception – Third Edition (DTVP-3) is a standardized, individually administered assessment designed to measure visual perception and visual-motor integration in children aged 4 years to 12 years, 11 months.

Developed by Donald D. Hammill, PhD, Nils A. Pearson, and Judith K. Voress, PhD, this third edition builds upon decades of research and clinical use to deliver a highly reliable, updated measure of key perceptual-motor skills.

The DTVP-3 provides detailed diagnostic information through five engaging subtests, which collectively generate three composite scores:

  • Motor-Reduced Visual Perception

  • Visual-Motor Integration

  • General Visual Perception (a combined measure)

These results help clinicians and educators identify visual processing difficulties that can impact learning, coordination, and classroom performance.

Age Range:

4 years 0 months – 12 years 11 months

Administration:

  • Individual assessment

  • Completion time: Approximately 30 minutes

  • Qualification level: B

Subtests Included:

  1. Eye-Hand Coordination – Drawing within visual boundaries

  2. Copying – Reproducing simple to complex geometric shapes

  3. Figure-Ground – Identifying target figures hidden in complex backgrounds

  4. Visual Closure – Completing partially drawn figures mentally

  5. Form Constancy – Recognizing shapes despite changes in size, position, or shade

Key Benefits:

  • Highly reliable and valid measure of visual-perceptual and motor integration skills

  • Updated normative data collected in 2010–2011

  • Extended norms up to age 12:11

  • No floor or ceiling effects

  • Extensive validity, sensitivity, and bias studies included in the manual

  • Modern, engaging test design suitable for children in clinical or educational settings
